Next, you should dip a piece of sterile gauze into the tea and gently wipe it over your pet's eyes. It is very important that you use a different gauze for each eye so you will avoid that if there is an infection in one eye it affects the other.

Chamomile for anxiety and stress

If we see that our dog is feeling very anxious or tense  , either because there is a movement or because a new person has arrived at home, we can give him a few teaspoons of this infusion to drink. This plant produces a slightly calming effect on dogs, so it is ideal to calm them down and even give it to them so that they can be calm if we can anticipate that they will be in a situation that will cause them discomfort. The main ingredient in chamomile that produces this relaxing effect for dogs is apigenin.

Soothe the skin with chamomile

This plant, native to southeastern Europe and Asia Minor, is highly indicated for alleviating skin irritations or certain reactions that may occur when it comes into contact with certain substances. How do we give chamomile to dogs?

We have seen that chamomile can be given to dogs, both to drink and to apply to the skin or eyes. If you want to use chamomile for dogs with diarrhea or vomiting, we must make the tea first. Therefore, to prepare chamomile tea for dogs we must boil water, approximately the amount corresponding to a cup, that is, about 250 ml. We'll put a sachet of chamomile in it, and let it steep for a few minutes. Then we filter it and as soon as it cools down or heats up, we can use chamomile water for our dog. No need to add sugar or other sweeteners.

To give chamomile to a dog we can simply offer it to him in his drinking bowl. The dog may refuse it. In this case, we will use a syringe without a needle with a capacity of about 5-10 ml, always placing it on the side of the mouth behind the canines, and we will infuse slowly and carefully so as not to suffocate it. If the dog resists, though, we shouldn't force it.

In the case of topical use, we prepare the infusion as we have indicated and apply it through gauze or cotton, which we will soak in the liquid. If we clean both eyes we must use gauze for each one and we will always pass it from the inside out.

We've already seen that chamomile can help remove ticks more easily or relieve irritation caused by flea bites . To use it, we simply have to prepare an infusion with it, as we explained in the previous section, by soaking sterile gauze or cotton in it (once it is warm) and passing it through the affected area, gently and very carefully, especially if we intend to remove the tick

On the other hand, we have the option of performing a chamomile bath, massaging the animal's body, spreading the solution all over its body and making sure that it does not penetrate the ears or eyes. Then rinse and dry it well. This is a suitable puppy treat.

Chamomile acts as a repellent and makes fleas and ticks want to flee, however, this does not always work and hence, we highlight the importance of using a prescription anti-parasitic product. As a supplement to this product, chamomile can be used to soothe a dog's skin, reduce inflammation, and promote bite wound healing.

Can chamomile be used for scabies in dogs?

Due to its soothing and antiseptic properties, chamomile can be used in dogs with mange. In this way, the infusion should be prepared and a wet gauze should be passed on the wounds to relieve itching and soothe irritation. This remedy can be applied up to three times a week. Of course, chamomile will not solve the problem, so it should not be used  as a treatment for scabies in dogs  , rather it is recommended as a supplement to promote healing and enhance the effects of veterinary treatment.

Can chamomile be used for dermatitis in dogs?

In cases of dermatitis, the same thing happens as with scabies. Chamomile helps reduce itching and improves skin condition. Thus, chamomile can be used for canine dermatitis , but it is not recommended as the only treatment performed. It is important to follow your vet's instructions.
